About Hong KongChinese Medicine Culture Festival

Chinese Medicine (CM)is a precious heritage of Chinese culture and plays an important role in treatment of diseases and preventive healthcare. CM is an important part in Hong Kong's healthcare system and is closely related to the healthy being of citizens.

In order to vigorously promote the development of CM on all fronts and support the national initiative to promote CM cultural heritage, the Health Bureau will organise the first "Hong Kong Chinese Medicine Culture Festival" from December 2024 to February 2025, in collaboration with the stakeholders of the CM industry and different sectors of the society to promote CM culture.  It is hoped that the Festival help deepen public understanding of CM and promote its long-term development.

A series of diversified programmes will be launched during the "Hong Kong Chinese Medicine Culture Festival" to arouse public’s interest, strengthen experience and recognition of the CM culture, so as to enhance health literacy and mindset, and promote the inheritance and development of CM culture.

Logo Design

The logo of the Hong Kong Chinese Medicine Culture Festival uses a gourd as the core concept to represent both the Chinese medicine practitioners (CMPs) and Chinese medicines.  The gourd not only signifies CMPs according to an ancient allusion, but also itself a containerfor Chinese Medicines.  It is also a kind of traditional Chinese herbal medicine. The brass gourd shape container is signature in Hong Kong’s local herbal tea shops, as container for herbal tea.
Basic Concept

The correspondence between nature and human

The gourd is composed of three overlapping circles which represent three essential elements of CM, i.e. nature, earth and human, and the connection between nature and human.  The circle conveys the idea of holism, viewing the human body as a whole organic entity integrated with the external environment.  It also represents the correspondence between nature and human (天人相應), which is one of the basic concepts of traditional CM.
